Question 1

How fast do I get the Austria vignette?

Accepted Answer

Straight away. The electronic vignette is issued once payment clears and arrives by email. Nothing to print, nothing to stick on the windscreen.

Question 2

What do I need to buy one?

Accepted Answer

Your vehicle details and a payment card. The minimum is the country of registration, the licence plate, the VIN and the vehicle category.

Depending on the country the form may also ask for make, model, year of manufacture, number of seats or weight. The form shows exactly what Austria requires.

Question 3

When does it start?

Accepted Answer

We sell the Austrian digital vignette in two lengths: 1 day and 10 days. Both are valid immediately once payment clears, so you can set off the same day. You can also pick a future start date in the form.

If you have read about an 18-day waiting period on Austrian digital vignettes: that applies only to the 2-month and annual vignettes, not to 1-day or 10-day ones.

Question 4

Does the vignette cover every motorway?

Accepted Answer

Not entirely. The vignette is required on motorways and expressways and is registered against your licence plate, with nothing to stick on the windscreen.

Sections tolled separately, on top of the vignette: A9 (Gleinalm, Bosruck), A10 (Tauern, Katschberg), A11 (Karawanken), A13 (Brenner) and S16 (Arlberg). Those are paid directly to the operator.

Stretches exempt from the vignette:

• A1 Westautobahn, between the Walserberg border and the Salzburg Nord junction
• A12 Inntalautobahn, between the Kufstein border and the Kufstein-Süd junction
• A14 Rheintal/Walgau, between the Hörbranz border and the Hohenems junction
• A26 Linzer Autobahn, until its connection to the A7 via the Linz-Hummelhof junction opens

Question 5

What happens if I drive without one in Austria?

Accepted Answer

You risk a fine from the road operator or the police. Amounts vary by country, but in every case they far exceed the price of the vignette. Paying the fine does not replace the vignette.

Question 6

Can I cancel or get a refund?

Accepted Answer

No. The vignette is non-refundable and non-transferable once issued. Check the plate, the vehicle category and the period before confirming payment.
