Question 1

How fast do I get the Switzerland vignette?

Accepted Answer

Straight away. The electronic vignette is issued once payment clears and arrives by email. Nothing to print, nothing to stick on the windscreen.

Question 2

What do I need to buy one?

Accepted Answer

Your vehicle details and a payment card. The minimum is the country of registration, the licence plate, the VIN and the vehicle category.

Depending on the country the form may also ask for make, model, year of manufacture, number of seats or weight. The form shows exactly what Switzerland requires.

Question 3

When does it start?

Accepted Answer

Switzerland has a single annual vignette — no short periods and no start date to choose. The 2026 vignette is valid from 1 December 2025 until 31 January 2027, whenever you buy it.

Question 4

Is the vignette tied to my plate?

Accepted Answer

Yes. It is registered electronically against the licence plate and checked automatically by the road operator’s cameras. Double-check the plate before paying.

Question 5

What happens if I drive without one in Switzerland?

Accepted Answer

You risk a fine from the road operator or the police. Amounts vary by country, but in every case they far exceed the price of the vignette. Paying the fine does not replace the vignette.

Question 6

Can I get a refund?

Accepted Answer

Road vignettes are non-transferable and non-refundable once issued. Check the plate and the period before you confirm payment.
