Question 1

How fast do I get the Romania vignette?

Accepted Answer

Straight away. The electronic vignette is issued once payment clears and arrives by email. Nothing to print, nothing to stick on the windscreen.

Question 2

What do I need to buy one?

Accepted Answer

The 9-digit vehicle registration certificate number and a payment card. The Romanian system identifies the vehicle by that document, not by the plate on the bumper.

The form then also collects the vehicle details: country, licence plate, VIN, category, weight and number of seats.

Question 3

When does it start?

Accepted Answer

You choose the start date in the form. Pick today and it is valid from the moment payment clears; pick a future date and it starts at 00:00 that day.

Question 4

What is the rovinietă tied to?

Accepted Answer

The vehicle's VIN. In Romania the rovinietă is registered electronically against the VIN rather than the licence plate, and checked automatically by the road operator's cameras. Check the details before you pay.

Question 5

Does the rovinietă cover bridges?

Accepted Answer

No. The Feteşti–Cernavodă bridge on the A2 is tolled separately and is not included in the rovinietă. Driving without a valid rovinietă is fined by the road operator.

Question 6

Can I get a refund?

Accepted Answer

Road vignettes are non-transferable and non-refundable once issued. Check the plate and the period before you confirm payment.
